GUNNAR ANDOR NIELAND

Gunnar Andor Nieland was born in Bergen, Norway in 1989. He started his singing lessons at the age of 16 with Espen Flod at Stange High school for Music in Norway.

In High school he was chosen to sing Solo parts with the renowned high school choir with Torgeir Ziener as the Conductor. At the age of 18 he was admitted to University of Stavanger, Norway where he studied classical singing and teaching with Bettina Smith as his singing teacher. Here he did different production like L´incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi), Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), A Hand of Bridge (Barber), and Pimpinone (Telemann).

Outside the University he joined different project like singing at the Kirsten Flagstad festival (Hamar, Norway), Joined Master classes with Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz, and sang the solo part in Larsen’s Förklädd Gud (God in disguise) with Jæren Symphonic Orchestra. In 2011 he came to Mozarteum in the class of Prof. Mario Diaz as an Erasmus student. The year after he was accepted as a regular student and joined productions of Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), La Bohème (Puccini), Don Pasquale (Donizetti) and Faust (Gounod). The summer 2013 he sung his first opera in a professional production as Schaunard in La Bohème (Puccini) in Opera Bergen, Norway with Anne Randine Øverby, and did Betto in Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) in the summer 2014. 2017 he joined a production with Arctic Philharmonic of Ariadne auf Naxos as Harlekin and Ringsakeroperaen as Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana. In 2018 he has Sung Morales in Carmen with Operaen I Kristiansund and Schaunard with Opera Rogaland. In November 2018 he sung  Zurga in Pearlfishers by G. Bizet with Ringsakeroperaen and did Caspar in Der Freischütz in 2021. He has also done many concerts and masses in Norway, Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Thailand.
